We raise funds for research that will lead, step by step,
to the successful treatment and eventual
elimination of kidney disease.

We Support

We supported the Kidney Health campaign that launched on June 17th within the Guardian Newspaper

Kidney Health looked at how to provide support for kidney patients throughout the pandemic from key thought leader Dr David Makanjuola and The Kidney Fund.

Our Fundraising

The Kidney Fund Fundraising Committee is chaired by Robin Ford. The objectives are to increase awareness and raise funds for renal research. The committee meets once a month at the Renal Research Unit at St Helier Hospital to discuss fundraising events, why not join us or send us your ideas for fundraising!

Throughout the year we hold a variety of events such as the Camberley car show, the London Marathon, the Prudential cycle ride, the Dragon Boat race, evening at the House of Lords, fairs with raffles, face painting and games, also run awareness campaigns as well as collect donations.

About Us

The Kidney Fund was formed in 1989 following a meeting called by Dr Mike Bending to address the essential need for Kidney research. A group of renal patients, their friends and relatives came together at a house in Sutton and their vision was to raise sufficient funds to build a Renal Research Institute on the St Helier Hospital site. It then took 8 years to raise the £745,000 needed through charitable appeals, grant applications and many and varied fundraising efforts, and then in March 1998 a purpose built two story laboratory block was opened at the back of St Helier, under the name of The South West Thames Institute for Renal Research.
