About Your Kidney

Our kidneys are vital organs Filtering and ‘cleaning’ 180 litres of blood every day. They are extremely resilient but nevertheless they can be damaged by a wide range of conditions, from diabetes to pollution. Kidney disease may be genetic or caused by infection. If our kidneys do not work our blood may not be 'cleaned' properly.

Chronic kidney disease is a major cause of disease to our blood vessels and our heart. If our kidneys fail, we will die if we do not receive a transplant or undergo dialysis. There is no known cure for chronic kidney disease.

Research is our hope for the future. Through research we have already learnt a lot and therapies and medicines have improved and it is only through research that we will find a cure.
