Once again there were over 200 Guests on the evening which gives great encouragement to continue the cause of the Kidney Fund which supports the Research Institute at St Helier Hospital which is striving to find a Cure for Kidney Disease and Diabetes, both of which affects so many people across our World today. Great strides are being made over the last year which has been widely advertised via the Media and Television.
It was that time of year again, when hardy competitors gather to win bragging rights on the Thames. We are still neither hardy nor competitive, but we are definitely resilient. We have been a regular item at the boat race for a few years now and have always thoroughly enjoyed it. We continue to live up to the mantra that "it's not the winning, but the taking part that counts"
We managed to pull off a surprise party to honour and celebrate Dr Bending's 50 years work anniversary, it was so great to see friends, family, colleagues (old and new) and patients join in the wonderful get together.
"I would like to thank the Kidney Fund for letting me run the London Marathon for them, it was a pleasure to fundraise for such an important charity.
It was also hard. VERY hard. Especially after the 18 mile mark and got progressively harder with every step after that. But it was also fun, a LOT of fun, a joyous day Ill never forget, with an amazing crowd, an incredible atmosphere and an enormous amount of cramp. My time was 3:53:08, and I was happy with that." In November 2018, Lord (Richard) Rogers and Lady Rogers hosted a reception at the House of Lords to mark the 20th anniversary of the opening of our Research Institute at St Helier Hospital. The reception was attended by 130 supporters who enjoyed views over the River Thames towards the London Eye and the City.
The evening was a great success and raised well over £10,000 for Dr Mark Dockrell's projects.
Lord Rogers has supported the fund for 35 years as his father Dr William Rogers was the founding kidney specialist in South West London at St Helier.
Thank you to all who rode for The Kidney Fund, supporting the charity and kidney research.
