The 2015 Dragon Boat Challenge will take place on Sunday 19th July. We have a full team, and will also, as always, have a charity stall. After the event we will update you on funds raised, team places etc. Fingers firmly crossed for good weather!
The day, from around 10:00 am until 4:00 pm, is a great day out for the family, so if you would like to come and cheer on the teams and visit the stalls head for Canbury Gardens, Kingston on Thames
The 2014 Dragon Boat Challenge on the 20th July was another big success. We had perfect weather. Over £8,000 will have been raised by the team and £426 on the charity stall – so a very successful day all in all. Many thanks to all our team members and to all those who volunteered on the stall. As usual – your participation is very much appreciated. A picture of the 2014 team (and our charity stall) is posted below. For more pictures of an excellent day, please click here.
PREVIOUS YEARS’ DRAGON BOAT CHALLENGES.
The 2012 Kingston-upon Thames Dragon Boat Challenge was cancelled at the last minute on July 15 due to torrential rain and rescheduled for Sunday, September 9th which turned out to be a BEAUTIFUL day.
45 teams (around 700 competitors) took part in the racing and many other people worked on the assortment of stalls and games all of which contributed to a fantastic day! Of course, the main contribution was from the Kingston Rotary Club who organise this day each year. Many thanks to them!
Our two teams – Sweaty Kidney Scientists and Red Hot Kidney Beans – never get a chance to practice and the day of the challenge is the first time they have ever been in a boat together … but they did not come in last! They came in, respectively, 40th and 41st out of 45 teams which we feel is a fantastic result!
Approximately £12,000 will have been raised from the sponsorship raised by the team members and the funds raised from the charity stall. This is a huge benefit to Kidney Research and a brilliant result from a brilliant day! Many thanks to all who took part in or contributed towards the event!
Next year’s Dragon Boat Race will be on 21 July 2013. If you or anyone you know would like to take part, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you know enough people to fill your own boat (a maximum of 16 paddlers plus 1 drummer are allowed in the boat at one time, but reserves are always a good idea), please contact us and we will give you more information on registering a team and the costs involved.
